Lessons learned while getting started

Posted By Radhika

My goal last week was to begin the retail class. I’m glad that I started as I had a good number of individuals interested in the class and had I waited any longer, their interest could have potentially waned. However, because I was creating the English curriculum, and at a very slow pace, running the class became challenging. Also, because I had to go out of town four days after the class started, I was concerned about lesson plans. Fortunately, GDL members assured me that they would handle it. While I was worried about not having lesson plans that followed the template I was using ( i.e., very detailed), the experience of being away is proof that quality material can be created that’s not absolutely perfect. Perfecting things is great sometimes; but when on a time crunch, having an outline and teaching from that works as well. From that, a more detailed lesson plan can be created later. Though people had told me this system earlier, I still continued to spend a lot of time on each lesson plan. Being away has showed me that creating a week-long outline is beneficial so as to be well-prepared for each day in advance .
