DIA (Dreaming of An Indian Awakening)
Job Title:  Director of Programmes
Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra

The ‘dia’ that is inextricably linked with India's history, its religions and its festivals is also a symbol of illumination and knowledge.  The purpose of DIA is to bring together, inspire, and mobilize these young Indians who wish to propel India towards a renaissance.  DIA programs  create an environment of young Indians to engage in vibrant dialogue and leadership through thought.  DIA initiatives include a series of exhibitions, performances, films, lectures and seminars;  our goal is to enable critical-thinking skills and empower India’s next generation of leaders with a deep understanding of both their country and their individual potential.

Job Overview:  To create, implement, and popularize regular events and forums in Mumbai that bring young Indians together in enlightening discussion, informative presentation, and constructive dialogue; this forms the basis of a movement dynamic that DIA aims to scale to different parts of the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential speakers and presenters for DIA forums and events
  • Develop a decentralized system to host forums and obtain feedback
  • Manage interest, membership, and outreach related to forums and events
  • Organize 3-4 large events with prominent speakers annually
  • Oversight of marketing materials and website
  • Creation of informative and innovative materials to promote DIA’s mission
  • Formulation of new programs within the DIA leadership vision
  • Building a scaleable process, working towards DIA chapters in other cities
  • Evaluation of DIA’s performance in events and forums
  • Development of inspirational DIA merchandise, such as t-shirts
  • Overall management of the DIA team and emerging programs

Candidates should have:

  • A passion for India and the power of youth
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • A strong understanding of Indian socio-political and economic issues
  • An interest in academia and promoting intellectual curiosity
  • Strong communication, organization, and execution skills
  • Committed work ethic and sincere interest in the DIA mission
  • The temperament to be self-reliant in an unstructured environment

Other details:

  • Office located in Lower Parel
  • Schedule flexibility may be possible
  • Local travel (within Mumbai) will be required
  • Individuals with social networks in Mumbai are especially encouraged to apply

Compensation:  Competitive for NGO sector, commensurate with experience.
